Fertilising Rhododendrons

What is the best way to fertilise rhododendrons?

Rhododendrons love acid soil; therefore, they require an acid fertiliser that is specifically formulated to lower the pH of the soil. This creates an acidic environment that rhododendrons, along with plants like Camellias, Azaleas, and Daphne’s, thrive in.

Our Daltons Premium Acid Fertiliser provides a balanced supply of nutrients for up to three months, promoting healthy green leaves and beautiful blooms. It can be used on existing potted Rhododendrons and those in the garden, or when planting new specimens.

To apply to existing plants, evenly spread the fertiliser around the base of your rhododendron, fork it in gently and water it in well. Be sure to read the application rate on the bag to calculate how much you need. It's best to fertilise every give to six weeks from spring through early summer, and then again in March and April.

Keep your plants healthy by regularly mulching them with Premium Mulch and Grow or Garden Time Compost. Just make sure they don’t dry out completely over the summer months, as this can lead to issues with a pest called thrips, which can be difficult to treat.
With the right care, your rhododendrons will flourish beautifully!
