The best time to prune Hydrangea ‘Limelight’ in New Zealand is in winter, once the plant is fully dormant. If you prune too early, a warm spell can trigger new growth before winter, which can be damaged by cold conditions.

Hydrangea ‘Limelight’, like other hydrangeas, is reasonably easy to grow from cuttings taken in winter when the plant is completely dormant.

1. Choose cutting material that is about the thickness of a pencil, with a brownish to cream appearance.
2. Cuttings should be around 120–130mm long and taken as nodal cuttings, with the cuts made just above and below existing nodes on the stem.
3. Make the top cut on an angle and the bottom cut straight so it is easy to tell which way up the cutting should be planted.
4. Place the cuttings into a pot filled with Daltons Premium Cutting Mix, inserting them to about half their length. They can also be placed into a part of the vegetable garden with reasonably fine, crumbly soil.

New leaves should appear in spring, along with a developing root system.
