When to Plant Tomatoes
When is the best time to plant your tomatoes
As soon as spring rolls around, the urge to get summer veggies in the ground is strong – and tomatoes are always top of the list!
The trouble is, spring can be unpredictable. Cold snaps and frosts are still possible, and soils can take a while to warm up after winter. Planting too early will only slow growth, or worse, damage your young plants.
When to plant:
The best time to plant is from mid-October onwards, once the soil has warmed and the risk of frost has passed.
Choose a sunny, sheltered spot in the garden, dig in plenty a mixture of Daltons Garden Time™ Compost and Garden Time™ Tomato Mix to improve the soil and drainage.
Always put your stake in before planting your seedling to avoid damaging roots later.
Crop Rotation:
If you have the space, rotate your tomatoes each year and plant them in a different spot than last season – it helps keep them healthy and productive.
Feeding:
Feed regularly with a Daltons Garden Time™ Tomato Fertiliser through the season – this gives plants the steady nutrients they need for strong growth and generous harvests.
