Hydrangeas and Colour

I enjoy the beautiful colours of our hydrangeas but not so much when the colour fades and start to look washed out. Is there anything I can do to rejuvenate the hydrangeas and enhance the colour for a longer period of time?

To maintain deep blue coloured hydrangea flowers, it is necessary to apply aluminium sulphate every few weeks.

With red or pink flowering hydrangeas, apply lime around the base of the plant from early in the growing season and repeat throughout summer. White flowering hydrangeas will generally retain their white colour until near the end of summer when they can fade to cream or light pink.

Hydrangeas should be pruned hard every winter, removing all the very old wood and any overlapping twiggy growth. The addition of fresh compost to the soil around hydrangeas in spring will encourage strong, healthy growth throughout summer. Remember to add a layer of Daltons Premium Mulch & Feed to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.
