The key to gardening with children is choosing veggies that are fun and interesting to grow, exciting to harvest, and delicious to eat straight from the garden!

Veggies

• For a colorful twist, try rainbow carrots—kids will love pulling up vibrant surprises in orange, yellow, purple, and red. Try Kings Seeds Carrot Rainbow Blend. 
• Sugar snap peas grow quickly and are sweet right off the vine. Make it interactive with runner beans on a frame or bean tepee. Let kids plant their own seeds and have a race to see whose grows fastest!
• Pair Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes with dwarf beans, peas, and celery for a variety of easy, kid-friendly crops.
• Looking for something unique? Kohlrabi looks like a little alien and is crunchy and fun to snack on. 
• Mini bell peppers add a pop of colour, and for something tall, try corn—watching the stalks grow and harvesting fresh ears is always an adventure. Pumpkins are also a fun long-term project.
• For quick results, radishes are a top choice, and for a colourful surprise underground try beetroot and digging up potatoes is like a treasure hunt! 
• On the leafy side, butter lettuce and spinach are fast growers and ideal for fresh summer salads.

Strawberries

Strawberries are a must! Children can snack on them straight from the garden, and with at least 20 plants, you’ll have a steady supply all season. 

Herbs & Flowers

• Don’t forget fragrant herbs like mint, oregano and basil - great for summer drinks and pizza toppings. Try planting a herb spiral as a hands-on project. 
• To attract beneficial insects and add colour, grow edible flowers like nasturtiums and pansies - their flowers are both beautiful and edible.
