Helping grow a Generation of Gardeners!

The Daltons Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project has been running since 2013 and is designed to grow a generation of gardeners through kindy kinds nurturing and caring for their own sunflowers. Kindy kids compete to grow the tallest sunflower or widest sunflower face within their region to win great prizes for their kindergarten – all while learning gardening skills for life!

We hope all the participating Kindergartens and Centres enjoyed the 2021 Project and the children are inspired to keep growing their gardening skills! We hope to bring the competition to you again in 2023.

Late Bloomers Competition 2021

The Late Bloomers Competition is the final part of the Sunflowers Project. The competition is for kindergartens who took part in the main Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project that have been impacted by COVID lockdowns and restrictions, have struggled with pests, lower temperatures or weather issues in their region when growing their sunflowers.

About the Project

The Daltons Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project is a much-loved initiative designed to empower a generation of gardeners and provides an opportunity for children to win prizes for their kindergarten along the way. At the heart of the project lies Daltons' goal to spark children’s interest and grow a passion for gardening.

The project provides a platform for children to learn gardening skills and a basic understanding of plants by sowing seeds, learning about germination, caring for seedlings, planting them out and daily care of their plant, and much more. The project runs biennially with the last one held in 2019 when a staggering 13,024 children through 250 kindergartens across 11 kindergarten associations nationwide took part, all aiming to grow the tallest sunflower or widest sunflower face within their region.
