Growing Feijoas Without Full Sun
Will feijoa trees grow without full sun?
Yes, feijoas can grow and produce fruit in part shade, although they will fruit better in a sunnier spot.
Feijoas are one of the few fruits that can be grown in New Zealand and still produce fruit without full sun. This can include planting them in a south-facing site where they only receive sun for part of the day, or in a garden where large trees allow dappled light through to the plant.
However, feijoas are not a good choice for a heavily shaded part of the garden. While they may grow quite successfully, they are likely to produce less fruit.
For best results, choose a cutting-grown, named variety rather than a seedling. Apollo remains a favourite among the many feijoa varieties now available.
