Sometimes daphne can be difficult shrubs to grow. They prefer dappled light or half day sun position (morning sun is preferable). They will definitely NOT flower well if planted in heavy shade or in full blazing sun. The soil should be free draining and contain adequate amounts of organic matter such as compost. Plants should be fertilised in early autumn and again in spring with acid fertiliser, like Daltons Premium Acid Fertiliser, as this encourages strong, healthy, vegetative growth and regular flowering. Do not fertilise with high nitrogen fertilisers as this will only encourage leafy not flowering growth. It is worth noting that Daphne’s are not overly long-living shrubs, and your plant may simply need to be replaced with a new, young, healthy specimen.
