Treeline Native Nursery: Smarter Production with Javo
Treeline Native Nursery began in 1996, born from Diane Coleman’s passion for cultivating plants - especially New Zealand natives - and her desire to spend more time with her five-year-old son, Sam.
Nestled in rural Kaharoa, Rotorua, at 419m above sea level, the nursery’s high-altitude, cold-climate location is perfect for growing healthy, hardy native plants.
From the start, Diane focused on producing robust plants to support planting projects across the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and beyond. Her commitment to eco-sourcing ensured Treeline earned its reputation as a trusted supplier of New Zealand natives.
A Family Legacy Continues
Growing up to now share his Mother’s passion, Treeline continues to be family owned and operated nearly 30 years later with Diane’s son Sam Edmonds and his wife Caroline taking the reins in 2023 as second-generation owners.
Sam and Caroline have had the honour of witnessing the nursery evolve over the years and are proud to carry Treeline into the future. With up to 20 staff the nursery produces over a half a million plants each year.

Investing in Automation
Earlier this year, Treeline invested in a Javo Rotofill tray filling line including a dibble unit. This step has improved efficiencies, reduced labour costs, and boosted production capacity. The line also allows for pot filling, if pots are filled in trays.
Future Options for Growth
A feature of this line is that it allows for future growth. Treeline have the ability to add on some of the options below:
• Watering unit -for consistent, uniform watering for every tray.
• Buffer table-to gather (or block) the trays for transporting out to the nursery.
• Automated pot into trays dispenser-PITA-if they want to fill pots on this line in the future.
• Big Filler-for improved media flow and storage capacity.
