When to Repot and Replenish Potted Plants

How often do potted plants need to be repotted and replenished?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer as it depends on the type of plant, the size of the pot, and how long it has been growing there.

  • Plants will usually give you signals when it’s time for a change: yellowing leaves from lack of nutrients, roots poking through the drainage holes, or a dense tangle of roots inside the pot that’s stifling growth.
  • Spring is the ideal time to repot, just as plants are surging back into growth.
  • Choose a slightly larger pot to allow room for root development and use fresh Daltons Premium Potting Mix with long-term nutrients.
  • For plants that don’t need a bigger home yet, a regular top-up of a Daltons Premium Container and Garden Fertiliser, will keep them strong and thriving.
