World-Class Wood Fibre for New Zealand Growers
Engineering High-Performance Growing Media
Daltons Pinegro is a superior, engineered wood fibre substrate, manufactured in New Zealand using a purpose-built twin-screw extruder, producing a high-quality fibre specifically for plant production. Blended into our growing media, Pinegro helps create the structure and consistency needed for strong root development and reliable growing performance, while reducing reliance on imported peat.
Key Growing Benefits*
Faster initial root development and stronger seedlings
Improved drainage and excellent capillary action ensuring better moisture distribution and oxygen flow around the root zone
Quicker surface drying reducing algae, moss and root disease risk
Improved substrate uniformity and easier rewetting
Long-term structural stability in containers
*When used and managed correctly.
Precision Processing
1. Locally sourced pine
Pinus radiata woodchips are sourced as a by-product of the New Zealand timber industry.
2. Twin-screw extrusion
Gold-standard twin-screw extrusion process produces a lightweight, open and consistent wood fibre, ready for use without further treatment or ageing.
3. Formulated into Daltons Growing Media
The finished Pinegro fibre is blended with selected New Zealand ingredients into customised growing media to meet specific growing requirements.
The Renewable Cycle of Daltons Pinegro Growing Media
Daltons Pinegro helps turn a renewable by-product of New Zealand forestry into high-performance growing media for commercial growers.
Our Process - The Difference
We’ve invested in New Zealand’s most advanced twin-screw extrusion technology to purpose-engineer Pinegro fibre specifically for growing media.
This proven Gold Standard Technology mechanically defibres wood chips under controlled pressure and temperatures of 140–160°C. The result is a consistent, high-quality horticultural fibre with:
- Optimal fibre length and structure for excellent aeration and drainage
- Hygienic material free from weeds and pathogens
- Stable, long-term performance
- The flexibility to be incorporated into growing media for propagation, potting and large containers
