Potting Geraniums
I have a sunny windy deck area where I want to grow potted geraniums. How do I ensure that what I grow will be compact and full of long-lasting blooms? What do I do to ensure I have good flowering over several years?
We advise approaching your geranium query in two ways. As these plants are easily propagated, continue to take fresh cuttings each year, ensuring your plant is an excellent specimen i.e free-flowering and has a strong form.
You can regain the ‘mother plant’ for several years, cutting back old growth in spring to encourage new fresh flowering growth. The plant should also be re-potted at this time into a larger container with Daltons Premium Houseplant Mix. During summer, pinch out new growth to encourage a denser, bushier habit that will be hardier in the windy position that you described.
