Pinegro Engineered Wood Fibre Production Process
We manufacture Pinegro in our state-of-the-art production facility in Matamata, using world-leading wood fibre processing technology. We locally source and process radiata wood chips, a by-product of the timber industry to create Pinegro, ensuring a sustainable supply chain, high-quality product, and promoting positive economic and environmental impacts.
Our Gold Standard Extrusion Process transforms radiata wood chips into a lightweight wood fibre substrate with an open, light, and fluffy texture.
Unlike other wood fibre substrates on the market, Pinegro can be seamlessly blended into growing media recipes without requiring any further treatment or aging.
Fiberisation & Sterilisation
Fiberisation occurs when wood fibres are teased apart by a rolling and twisting action. Temperatures of between 140 – 160°C are generated and combined with high pressure through the extrusion process to produce a lightweight material.
Sterlisation at high temperatures means chemicals such as tannins are volatalised, removing harmful compounds typically found in fresh wood.
Once processed, the result is a lightweight, clean inert wood fibre that is pathogen and weed-free and 100% safe for plant growth.
