Daphne Plants, 'Perfume Princess'

A year ago, I purchased a Daphne 'Perfume Princess' bush, and it has only grown leaves, nothing else. I am disappointed as I was looking forward to the lovely fragrance! Can you please tell me what could have happened or if there was something wrong with the plant when I brought it?

Daphne ‘Perfume Princess’ is a reasonably recent addition to Daphne varieties that are available in garden centres. It is a hybrid of two Daphne species and displays typical hybrid vigour (improved growth etc).

Plants available in garden centres are typically very well grown, attractive bushes. However, as with other Daphne’s, they can take a number of years after planting before they commence free flowering.

Daphne’s prefer a soil rich in compost, a position that provides adequate light, without being in the hot afternoon summer sun, and they do not flower freely when planted in heavy shade. They also do not like to be too wet, nor too dry, so keep the plant well mulched. Explore our range of bagged mulch and bark products.

Be patient with this particular Daphne, and you will be well rewarded with perfumed flowers in the near future.
