How to Remove Pests from Cyclamen
It is a possibility that your cyclamen is infected with whitefly or aphids. Here’s how to tackle the problem:
- Use a small hand atomiser to gently wash the plant. This will help dislodge some of the pests without soaking the plant excessively.
- If aphids are the culprit, spray the underside of the leaves with a safe horticultural oil.
- Move the cyclamen (pot and all) outside to a shaded spot with good airflow, such as under trees. Leave it there for 1–2 weeks, checking occasionally to ensure the soil isn’t too wet or dry. Cyclamen thrive in cooler temperatures, and this break will help refresh the plant.
- After 1–2 weeks, bring the plant back to your conservatory. If it’s in bloom, enjoy its beauty! Keep in mind that cyclamen’s natural flowering season is winter.
- Don’t discard your cyclamen at the end of its season. Instead, plant the pot outdoors in a shaded area to keep it cool through summer. Come March or April, repot it into a slightly larger container using fresh Daltons Premium Potting Mix. This will set your cyclamen up for another stunning winter display.
