Compost works best when blended with soil or garden mix to create the right balance of nutrients and structure. Fresh compost, especially if recently bagged, can be too strong for delicate seedlings and may “burn” them. Before sowing your seeds, mix Daltons Compost thoroughly with the existing soil in your raised bed rather than sowing seeds directly into the compost. For successful germination, ensure your soil and compost mix has a fine, crumbly texture (known as a ‘tilth’), which provides the ideal environment for seeds to sprout. Keep the soil consistently moist by watering regularly until full germination is has occurred.
