Thornless Blackberries
When do I prune back my thornless blackberry? There are lots of beautiful pink flowers, colourless berries but it's growing wild everywhere. Should I cut the shoots to promote berry growth or wait till the fruit ripens more?
You can prune your thornless blackberries after you have harvested all the berries, or wait until early winter. With the growth you have described, you might be keen to carry out the pruning as soon as possible!
When pruning, remove some of the old canes and establish a strong framework of canes from which fruiting wood will appear next season. Don’t be afraid to prune back quite hard - where these plants are successfully established, they grow very rapidly.
