When to Plant Seedlings

When to Plant Seedlings

Should I start planting my seedlings now for my summer veggie garden? During the month of August in NZ?

August is a very cold month and it is certainly far too early to plant out summer veggie seedlings. However, you can continue planting veggie seedlings that are harvested throughout the year. These include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, silverbeet and spinach. Remember to prepare the soil well before planting as soils can be very wet this time of the year. Do this by adding fresh Daltons Garden Time Compost and raise the level of the soil to ensure adequate drainage.
