Garden Trees

Portugal laurel

I have several Portuguese topiaries in pots and growing in the ground. They were all planted at the same time, but my pot ones are not doing well. They have yellow leaves and black spots. I sprayed them several times, but they are not healthy. I was wondering if you could please advise.

Tree Care

I have two trees about 150m apart which each have a large branch which has been dying back over the last year. One is a paper shelled almond and the other is a sterile double pink flowering cherry. Can you help?

Planting Trees

When I buy bare root trees to plant, please tell me how deep should the hole be and what is best to put in the hole i.e. compost or manure, or not add anything at all?

Avocados and Chestnuts

Can my self-seeded avocados, in Masterton, produce edible fruit? Also, I have a large horse chestnut tree, and while walking in the park I collected chestnuts and their casings from two different looking chestnut trees, in case they’re edible. How do I identify them?

Feeding Olive Trees

Could you please advise me of the best manure or fertiliser you would recommend for olive trees in the home garden, particularly to stimulate the production of fruit?
