Pruning Feijoa Trees

I have a feijoa tree - I am just wondering when is the best time to prune it? Or if it is better not to prune it in order to get more fruit?

Feijoas respond to careful pruning in that they will produce more regular crops on a yearly basis. Named variety feijoas e.g. Apollo are cutting grown, producing a more open, large bush. The traditional seedling grown feijoas are very dense in habit.

Pruning in the early years is designed to develop a strong tree framework that will support heavy cropping in later years. Remove any inward growing branches and where branches overlap. Maintain the ultimate height of the feijoas at 2.5 – 3m, as this will allow for easier care of the plant while ensuring more than enough fruit develops.
