Lily Bulbs

When is the best time to lift my lilies? Do I split them and plant straight away or store for the winter and plant again in spring?

Wait until the leaves are totally brown and dry before lifting your lily bulbs. The reason for this is to protect the plant and ensure maximum nutrients have been stored for next seasons flowering.

Depending on the age and development of your lily bulbs, you can divide and plant at the same time. Use this opportunity to check the bulbs for any sign of damage or disease and discard any that are not in excellent health.

Lilies prefer a full sun position, sheltered from strong winds, and a light, free-draining soil that has been well prepared with the addition of fresh compost. Try our Garden Time ™ Compost or Daltons Premium Bulb Mix.

Mark the area where the lilies are planted with a stake to avoid the possibility of accidentally planting trees and shrubs in the same area.
