Q&As/Vine Fruit/When to Plant Passionfruit
When is the correct time to plant a passionfruit plant?
Now is the perfect time to plant passionfruit as excellent specimens are currently available in garden centres. Plants should be planted against a fence or wall that will provide shelter as well as a structure to tie the climber to. Protection from frost over winter is critical to the plant’s well-being.
Prepare the soil thoroughly prior to planting by adding compost to the existing soil. It is worthwhile planting more than one plant if you particularly like the taste of the fruit or are unsure of where to position a new plant.
Passionfruit are gross feeders and do require regular applications of fertiliser throughout the growing period. Apply Garden Time Complete Garden Fertiliser every 3-5 weeks from March to mid-April, recommencing in early November through until mid-December.
