Q&As/Flowering Shrubs and Trees/Growing Gardenia Flowers in Pots

Question

My two Fragrant Gardenia plants in pots at my front door had lots of leaves last year, some went brown on the edges but I did not get any flowers on either plant. Can you help?

Answer

Gardenias are incredible gross feeders and require more nutrition than most shrubs.  To encourage a strong healthy flowering plant, feed every two to three weeks with Daltons Premium Rose & Flower Fertiliser and Daltons Premium Tree & Shrub Fertiliser, alternating between the two.  It’s worth re-potting the plants in early October into slightly larger containers with fresh Daltons Premium Tub Mix.  Over winter be sure to keep them out of strong cold winds.
