Late Bloomers Awards
Thank you for participating in the 2019 Daltons Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project. We appreciate all the effort, time and TLC the children and teachers put into their sunflowers.
We recognise that not everyone had flowers bloom in time, or tall enough sunflowers at end of the main project (10 December 2019) due to their location or the weather. With this in mind we are running the Late Bloomers Awards in recognition of those kindergartens in regions which may have struggled.
Kindergartens can send in photos and measurements of their blooming best sunflowers anytime from Monday 16th December 2019 to Monday 10th February 2020.
Please email us to confirm your place in the Late Bloomers Awards and provide your Kindergarten name, regional association, key person and contact details.
Awards and Prizes
There will be two awards given out overall:
Late Bloomers Tallest Sunflower
Late Bloomers Widest Sunflower Face
How to enter your measurements:
Please fill in the form below by entering your kindergarten name, final measurements and photos before 6pm Monday 10th February 2020. All measurements must be taken using the Daltons measuring tape provided in your starter packs along with photographs. Local media will want photos of the children with the sunflowers and may use them in stories about Late Bloomers. Please ensure you upload some photos for this.
These awards are only open to those who did not receive an award in the main 2020 Daltons Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project.
Late Bloomers Awards Final Measurements and Photos
Thank you for participating in the Late Bloomers segment of the Sunflowers in Kindergartens Project. Please ensure you check the list below and have everything on hand before submitting your entry. For sunflower plant measurement verification your photos must show the Daltons sunflower measuring tape alongside the plant to verify the height/width of your measurements.
What you need:
- Tallest sunflower measurement AND verification photos.
Ensure you use your Daltons measuring tape to measure your tallest sunflower from the base of the stem (ground) to the top of the sunflower where the stem meets the bottom of the sunflower head.
- Widest sunflower measurements (if applicable) AND verification photo.
For the widest sunflower head measure across the head width (not including any petals).
If your sunflower buds are not open yet to measure the flower “face”, please still submit your tallest plants measurements to be in to win the “Tallest Sunflower” prize pack for your region.
- Photos of children with the tallest/widest sunflowers for local media.
Here are some guidelines to ensure you have measured your plant correctly:
The Tallest Sunflower – entrants must provide a photo showing the entire plant from the base to the flower. Measurements are to be taken from the base of the stem to the top of the sunflower stem using the Daltons measuring tape. Entrants must also provide a photo showing the final measurement up close.
The Sunflower with the widest head – entrants must provide a photo along with measurements taken across the head width (not including petals) using the Daltons measuring tape.
Having problems uploading your photo? Please ensure you read through the Sunflower Top Photo Tips guide.
